Located approximately 150 kilometers north of Puerto Natales, the capital of the province of Ultima Esperanza, the Torres del Paine National Park is part of the National System of Protected Areas of the State of Chile.
It is one of the largest natural areas and the third trans-Andean country as regards the number of visitors, most of whom are foreigners from Europe. Treasure of the Chilean Patagonia, also borders the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares in Argentina travel.
Valleys, mountains, lakes, rivers and glaciers represent the magic of this site, created May 13, 1959 and declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1978. Its main attractions are the Cerro Paine, the Horns of Paine Paine River, the lakes Grey, Pehoé and Nordenskjöld, and Grey and Tyndall glaciers, for the extension, called the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
Technically, the Torres del Paine is described as a set of large blocks of granite, plutonic rock composed of quartz, feldspar (mineral constituents of igneous rocks, down from the cooling and solidification) and mica, other kind of mineral. By the way, the three towers have over 2500 meters.
