La Grotta Gigante, located in the Carso Triestino (Italia), is led by the oldest group in the world caver, the Commission Caves “Eugenio Boega” Alpina delle Society Giulia – Trieste Section Cai, founded in 1883 far.
The Grotta Gigante cavity is the world’s largest tourism, may contain the Basilica of San Pedro, and belongs to the category of karts caves of origin, whose origin dates back some 10 million years. Morphologically, this is what remains of two superimposed galleries paleofluviales present in the limestone carbonate rocks of the Carso Triestino. The presence of these rocks is due to the accumulation of individual fossils that were deposited during the Lower Cretaceous of the Mesozoic or Secondary to the Eocene Period of the Cenozoic Era and Tertiary.
La Grotta Gigante, some five million years, was traversed by a river that has given rise retiring and development, although it has in other ways encotnrado deluge deeper.
