Egypt will be “a great tourist destination” after this time of unrest and political instability, as it has “natural and cultural attributes to be,” said the executive director of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Marcia Avilla in presentation framework of the Global Forum of Tourism 2011, to be held in Andorra from 6-7 March.
In Egypt, tourism is “the largest source of income and employment,” recalled the official, who stressed that it will be “first line” after the return to normal. “The tourism sector once again demonstrated their resilience,” he said.
The WTO will play a “catalyst” in relenting the most important sector of the country, said Avilla, who, however, stressed that despite the situation in the country “have not been registered or aggression or hostility” towards tourists. Managers of the WTO held a meeting last week with the TERN videoconferencing, an association of companies (tour operators, hotels, etc…), who reported that they had to cancel its operations primarily by the warnings of Governments sending countries to their citizens.
